The Convent
The Convent was self-supporting, with its own livestock, orchard and laundrette that serviced hotels and holiday camps within the area. The Convent was used to train nuns and also housed women and orphaned children.
This project documents signs of previous existence and occupation of what is now a defunct and partially derelict Roman Catholic Convent. The exploration of the inner spaces shows what once existed behind the walls and doors of a religious institution, with signs of abandoned domestic items and religious artefacts.
The unfortunate decline of the Convent is a by-product of cultural changes in society leading to its closure. This has inspired me to document The Convent before it no longer exists and the familiar form of new-build flats stands in its place.
